Streetscape
as an Amenity
Great places make you feel good just walking the street.
That’s because they have great “streetscapes”. Site
planners such as Andres Duany have studied and cataloged what makes
great places feel so good. The key elements are: good architecture,
proper proportions, and abundant nature.
Village Walk is addressing each of these three key elements.
1. Architecture - by insisting on turn-of-the century styling,
featuring deep porches, 10’ ceilings, balconies, high windows
with transoms and other romantic detail and features.
2. Proportion – experts suggest that homes be ½ as
tall as the distance from the front of one home to the front of
the home across the street. For Village Walk, there is approximately
60’ distance to the home across the street. Therefore, our
homes will stand about 30’ tall to their peeks from the street
level. Such proportion creates a comfortable, right-sized homey
feel to the neighborhood. Add in the 5’ extra-wide, red brick-colored
sidewalk and proportions are just right for many days, months and
years of pleasant wanderings.
3. Nature – The Village Walk streetscape will be full of growing
things, with canopy trees lining the main street, (Village Walk
Lane), and a 7’ wide tree lawn between the street and the
sidewalk, and heavily planted, community-maintained front planting
beds full of green bushes and flowering plants.
The Village Walk streetscape promises to be one
of the greatest amenities of this delightful neighborhood.
